Foundation General Scholarship

Completing a Didactic Program in Dietetics at Texas Woman’s University

“The Foundation’s support in attaining my RDN credential will allow me to serve my community as I have been served. I see so many young men in Dallas who face the same food struggles I do. The Foundation Scholarship is enabling me to be a resource for those who don’t have anyone else to work through those struggles with.

How did you learn about the availability of the Foundation scholarship that you received?

I learned about the Foundation Scholarship through the nutrition department at my university. The faculty at this institution have been nothing but supportive of me as I’ve gone through the program, and they are always diligent about extending opportunities to their students.

What motivated you to apply for a Foundation Scholarship?

I work with a fellow dietetics student at my school and she is a current TWU dietetic intern. I saw her apply to the internship during the 2022-2023 match cycle and how strenuous that process was for her. But I also saw how perseverant she was and how much she wants to pursue a quality education to eventually become an RDN. I thought that if she can go through the stress of that application process, there’s no reason I can’t apply to the Foundation Scholarship. I’m also aware that she too applied to the Foundation Scholarship. I’m not sure if she is a recipient for this application cycle but either way, I’m excited to share with her that I am because of how she inspired me.

How will the scholarship funds help support your continued success within your educational program?

The Foundation Scholarship will be nothing short of a blessing during the remainder of my DPD program. I am nontraditional, transfer student and there have been times during my program where I felt like I had missed out on a lot of scholarship opportunities that were afforded to my peers. Being awarded this scholarship will allow me so much more breathing room as I enter my final semester before graduation in which I will be taking 19 credit hours! That is a lot of books, tuition, and fees to stack on top of all the other expenses that students undergo. These scholarship funds are a major boon to offsetting those costs and allow me to truly focus all of my energy on the course ahead.

What advice do you have for your colleagues about seeking out and applying for Foundation funding opportunities?

Go to your institution’s career services department if you have one. My career counselor at TWU proofread all of my application responses and was a tremendous help during this process.
