It has been my honor to serve as your Academy Foundation Chair! During this past year I’ve had the honor and privilege to serve as Chair of our Academy Foundation . Throughout my career and involvement with our Foundation as a volunteer leader, I have developed a great appreciation for the impact our Foundation has on Academy members and the profession. National Preceptor Month April is National Preceptor Month, Preceptors make a difference in the lives of students who are learning to become registered dietitian nutritionists or dietetic technicians, registered by acting as mentors and training the dietetic professionals of the future. Our Foundation would like to take this opportunity to honor the 2024 Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors (NDEP) Outstanding Preceptors of the Year. The NDEP Outstanding Preceptor Award program recognizes the teaching, mentoring, and leadership activities of preceptors in ACEND®-accredited dietetics education programs. March Means National Nutrition Month! For food and nutrition professionals and Academy members, March means the celebration of National Nutrition Month® ! This year's theme is " Beyond the Table ," which addresses the farm-to-fork aspect of nutrition, from food production and distribution to navigating grocery stores and farmers markets — and even home food safety and storage practices. Weekly messages of this year’s theme include staying nourished on any budget, seeing a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, eating a variety of foods from all food groups, and eating with the environment in mind. The fellows will work closely with the Academy’s Research, International and Scientific Affairs (RISA) EAC team and content experts in the proposed research areas. Our Academy Foundation is the world's largest provider of dietetic scholarships at all levels of study including undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and dietetic technician programs, as well as dietetic interns. Our application process for the 2024-2025 academic year is now open. I urge all students to apply. Our Impact... In 2023, our Foundation provided just over $988,000 in scholarships, awards, and grants to 345 recipients, which included credentialed practitioners, students, and dietetic interns. I am incredibly proud that in just one year, we provided nearly $1 million in support to empower these current and future food and nutrition practitioners.
