Alliance to End Hunger “Self-Assessment workbook”

The goal of the Self-Assessment Workbook (SAW) is to assist communities in determining for themselves the critical elements for effective organizational management and network functioning and to identify areas in need of strengthening or further development. The SAW is designed to enable organizational learning, foster team sharing, and encourage reflective self-assessment within an anti-hunger coalition. It can be used for strategic planning, evaluation, and building group cohesion. Additionally, The Alliance to End Hunger maintains a searchable resource library where you can find program ideas that have been implemented in other local communities.

The Alliance to End Hunger engages diverse institutions to build the public and political will to end hunger at home and abroad. The Alliance to End Hunger is a coalition of over 90 members—corporations, non-profits, faith-based organizations, universities, foundations, international organizations, and individuals. While driving factors may vary among membership, there is a shared conviction that addressing hunger is essential.

PSE Readiness Assessment & Decision Instrument

There is a need for planning tools that take into account the reality that no two communities are the same. These differences require tailored approaches for implementing community nutrition policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) interventions. The PSE Readiness Assessment & Decision Instrument (PSE READI) is an interactive tool to help practitioners assess readiness and build capacity to successfully implement PSEs within diverse local environments. It is free for use and features guides to help with completing an assessment as an individual or team of partners, a series of videos highlighting the work of community nutrition practitioners, as well as an extensive online library of toolkits and general resources.

The tool was developed in partnership between Case Western Reserve University, The Ohio State University (SNAP-Ed program), and the Ohio Department of Health (Creating Healthy Communities program) to focus on four intervention areas – Farmers’ Markets, Farm to School, Healthy Eating in Childcare, and Healthy Food Retail.

The Food Insecurity Handbook, developed by Humana in partnership with Feeding America, is a toolkit for physicians and their care teams to learn more about and screen for food insecurity in their patient populations regardless of their health plan.

The “Delivering community benefit: Healthy food playbook” by Healthcare without Harm is a suite of resources to support hospital community benefit professionals and community partners in developing community health interventions that promote healthy food access and healthier food environments. This includes resources on completing the community health needs assessment, creating an implementation strategy and the best strategies for evaluating, reporting, and communicating results.

The Guide for Developing and Enhancing Skills in Public Health and Community Nutrition is a comprehensive curriculum for practitioners, program administrators, and educators to develop and enhance the knowledge and skills expected of nutrition professionals practicing in public health and community nutrition. It was developed through the collaboration of the Public Health/Community Nutrition Practice Group (PHCNPG), a dietetic practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Association of State Public Health Nutritionists (ASPHN).

The creation of the tool was a highly collaborative effort coordinated by FANTA (Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance), Save the Children, and the CORE Group’s Nutrition Working Group.

World Food Programme’s Fill the Fill the Nutrient Gap Tool analyses the nutrition situation in a country and identifies the barriers faced by the most vulnerable to accessing and consuming healthy and nutritious foods.
