Every August, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and its Foundation put a spotlight on the importance of healthful eating and active lifestyles for children and their families.
The Kids Eat Right program was created by the Academy and our Foundation in 2014 and mobilizes registered dietitian nutritionists in a grassroots movement to share healthful eating messages to help families embrace nutritious eating habits. I encourage you to check out all the great, free resources and information on Eat Right for Kids. Also, utilize the Kids Eat Right social media toolkit to share messages with your followers to help families shop smart, cook healthy and eat right. In 2019, over 1,500 members accessed our social media toolkit, and there were nearly 1,700 posts on social media using #KERmonth or #KERchat.
Although back-to-school this month looks quite a bit different than previous years, there are many ways to support parents, families, and educators to help kids eat well and have fun, whether it’s at home, school, or other places where our kids eat and learn. You can find many wonderful resources for community leaders, schools, parents and kids, and RDNs here. With ideas for every age group from infants to teens, this is a great program we all can get behind as Academy members. I encourage you to promote the program in your community and on social media.
The Foundation also has a great Kids Eat Right e-newsletter that includes news, information and recipes every Monday, click here to send a message to subscribe.
