Our Foundation is Here For You, Now More Than Ever!

As I pen this message, I find myself reflecting on the different challenges each of us will face as we navigate through these unprecedented times. Our challenges come in different forms, but one thing we all share in common is the concern for the health and safety of our loved ones. One of my personal goals as your Foundation Chair is to ensure you, our valued members, feel supported professionally and personally during COVID-19. I’d like to share with you how the Academy and the Foundation are providing support.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is publishing resources for food and nutrition practitioners in an ongoing effort to address preparedness, patient care and food safety, and access. I’m proud of how responsive and informative the Academy has been during this time of crisis. I urge you to take advantage of this information by visiting eatrightpro.org.

We are the world’s largest provider of dietetic scholarships at all levels of study. Our scholarship applications are now open and we are prepared to provide as much funding as we can to dietetic students this fall. The Foundation is acutely aware of the growing number of needs that currently exist and we are prepared extend our support. Our Foundation is here for you because of the thousands of Academy members who have previously donated and remain committed to giving back to our profession.

While we practice the new “social distancing”, let’s make an effort to re-connect with our colleagues. Reach out by telephone, written communications or electronic messaging to engage with your network of RDNs to reinforce to them that they are appreciated. Share your ideas, ask them what is working in their communities, and collaborate with others to identify ways in which we can all work together and remain connected as a profession.

As I watch the daily coverage of COVID-19, I am moved by the tireless and compassionate work of all healthcare workers. I’m privileged to serve with you in the field of nutrition and dietetics. We all chose our profession because we wanted to make a difference. You and your families will remain in my thoughts as we make adjustments in our daily lives. I am convinced that together we will come out of this stronger than ever!

Warmly,

Kathy Wilson-Gold, MS, RDN, LD, FAND
