For most of us, the December holiday season comes with many happy childhood memories. Those of you who are parents and grandparents (or aunts and uncles) want to continue those happy times by making sacrifices, both big and small, to help future generations feel the joy and security that we felt. The mission of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation includes the words “…to empower current and future food and nutrition practitioners…,” indicating our commitment to help our colleagues to have the opportunities that we had, or even those that we wished we had had.
On December 14 this year, the application period opens for both Foundation research grants and awards. Foundation awards recognize excellence in our profession. Foundation research grants provide the opportunity for our colleagues to elevate our profession by being able to conduct important research projects that might otherwise not be funded. The video below is a fine example of two Academy members doing great work made possible by Foundation research grants.
As 2018 draws to a close, I want to thank each member of the Foundation Board of Directors, the Foundation Philanthropy Council, the State Fundraising Champions, the Foundation staff, and everyone who works tirelessly to ensure that our Second Century is a bright one, filled with opportunities made possible by our sacrifice and generosity. Wishing you all the happiest of holidays!
