The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation is committed to increasing the number of RDNs with doctorate degrees to help meet the needs of educating the next generation of RDNs, as well as providing financial support to students at all levels of study. Our Foundation has more than 55 scholarship funds that doctoral students are eligible for, including 10 each year through our dynamic partnership with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Since its inception in 2009, the CDR Doctoral Scholarship has awarded $700,000 to 70 deserving recipients. Remarkably, 65% of these scholarship recipients have completed their degree and 81% of these individuals are now working in academia.

The Foundation also offers several annual awards and grants that support doctoral students and individuals with doctorates seeking to become RDNs:

  • E. Neige Todhunter Memorial Doctoral Fellowship:
This award provides $5,000 in funding to masters-prepared dietetics educators and practitioners pursuing a doctorate.
  • CDR Faculty Fellowship:
This fund provides a $10,000 award for an individual with a doctoral degree seeking to become an RDN.
  • Colgate Palmolive Fellowship in Nutrition, Oral Health/Dental Education:
This fund provides one $15,000 grant per year and supports students seeking a doctorate in nutrition and oral health or dental education.

  • Jean Hankin Nutritional Epidemiology Research Grant:
This fund provides one $20,000 grant to support a doctoral student completing a dissertation in the area of nutritional epidemiology.

These efforts, through the support of CDR and our generous donors, are making a difference and addressing a critical need in our profession. These are the types of results and impact our Foundation envisioned when establishing these programs. Our Foundation is committed to expanding our impact through collaborations like these to solve the greatest food and Nutrition challenges now and in the future.
