Your Academy Foundation is Helping Develop the Next Generation of RDNs!
Students have always been an important focus for the Foundation. Our Mission – Through philanthropy, empower current and future food and nutrition practitioners to optimize global health – clearly emphasizes the importance of ensuring that students are given the right opportunities. As the world’s largest provider of dietetic scholarships at all levels of study, the Foundation continues to carry out this mission. Over the last three years, the Foundation awarded more than $1,574,000 to 1,200 nutrition and dietetic students at all levels of study to help build the workforce and support the future of our profession.
To ensure that we have student input throughout the year, the Foundation’s Board of Directors includes a student member. This year, it’s Kiri Michell from Colorado State University. At our recent Board meeting in Denver last month, Kiri took an active part and provided insightful comments. In addition, we received an impressive testimonial from Luke Shealy, who was about to complete his dietetic internship at the Tri-County Health Department. Luke was a recipient of the Foundation’s CDR Diversity Scholarship, which made it possible for him to relocate from Montana to Colorado and successfully complete his internship.
For those of you who are dietetics program directors, we encourage you to share information on scholarships and grants with your students, including any announcements and links you receive. For those of you who are students, we encourage you to become engaged with the Foundation now — just like Christina Green, who’s the Vice President of the Student Nutrition and Dietetics Association at Life University in Marietta, GA, and who organized an on-campus fundraiser for the Foundation.
When we meet and hear from students like the three very impressive individuals mentioned above, I feel proud as well as encouraged, that our future is indeed in good hands. Your generosity to the Foundation helps provide opportunities for students and researchers so that we continue to work with outstanding young individuals like Kiri, Luke, and Christina.
