“I am so thankful to have received this scholarship, as it will help me to achieve my goal of becoming a Registered Dietitian.”
Christie Sauer, MS
Whenever I speak to someone who’s unfamiliar with the Academy Foundation and its good works, the first word out of my mouth is always “scholarships” … scholarships for students in dietetics and nutrition. Since the Foundation was established over 50 years ago, it has been assisting students in helping make their career dreams a reality. In addition to scholarships, though, the Foundation provides grants for research, and awards that help with continuing education and with programs in the community aimed at helping kids and their families stay healthy. Here are some stats for the year in terms of what the Foundation has awarded:
- 240 scholarships totaling $522,700
- 10 grants totaling $117,000
38 awards totaling $105,835
That’s nearly three-quarters of a million dollars – thanks to our generous donors. Thanks to the many volunteers who made up the 2017 Scholarship Committee, devoting countless hours to thorough review of applications. Special thanks goes to those individuals and organizations who have endowed a scholarship fund in honor or in memory of a colleague or family member.
As 2017 draws to a close, I want to thank the selfless individuals who make up the Foundation Board of Directors. They freely give their “time, talent, and treasure” to help ensure the success of the Foundation’s efforts. As you consider year-end giving, please keep the Academy Foundation in mind for your tax-deductible contribution. Whatever holidays you celebrate in the next few weeks, I hope they are joyful ones.
