“I choose to give to the Academy Foundation because I value the work it does. The scope of the Academy is focused on the advancing the profession. I value the Academy Foundation because it allows for an important focused effort on philanthropy with their scholarship, grant and nutrition education programs.
I am especially passionate about the Foundation’s efforts with the Kids Eat Right Campaign. I consider it a privilege to be able to give annually to an organization that provides so much support to nutrition professionals. The Foundation is at the top of my charitable gift list each year.”
Carl Barnes, MS, RD, Academy member since 2013.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation is the only charitable organization devoted exclusively to promoting nutrition and dietetics, working within the profession to provide educational opportunities and resources to empower Academy members to be global leaders in food, nutrition and health. Although affiliated with the Academy, the Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) public charity and does not receive any portion of member dues. The success and impact of its programs and services are directly attributed to the generous support of our Academy members.
“As a first-generation college graduate, a primary reason I choose to give to the Foundation is to help support scholarship opportunities for other students who need financial support to obtain their dietetics education. Through both scholarship support and doctoral grant support, the Foundation helped me reach a major career goal and milestone-attainment of my PhD in public health.
In addition to the wonderful support for students, the Foundation supports established RDNs through professional resources such as toolkits and infographics, and continues to collaborate with other organizations to support research aimed at improving food security and access to high quality food for populations in need. The Foundation has continued to invest in me by supporting my professional growth, and this is why I invest in the Foundation!”
Amy Knoblock-Hahn, PhD, MPH, MS, RD, Academy Member since 1997.
Hundreds of members each year receive scholarships, awards, fellowships, and research grants through the Foundation … members of all ages, backgrounds and skill sets. Thousands more participate in our public education programs like Kids Eat Right and Future of Food, utilizing Foundation resources to take these programs into their communities.
“I have been a financial supporter of the Foundation since early in my career. The first major campaign I supported was the Let’s Build our Future initiative in the late 80s and early 90s, which launched the National Center for Nutrition and Dietetics, our first public nutrition education initiative. As I progressed in my career and became more involved in Academy leadership roles, I became even more aware of the critical need for funding to support the Foundation’s work. And as I was able, I increased my giving.
I fervently believe in the Foundation’s work focused on both members and the public. If we as members do not give to the Foundation to promote scholarships, research and public education, who else will? I believe all members should be committed to giving to the foundation because it is the only charitable organization that truly promotes the registered dietitian nutritionist’s unique role in improving health through food and nutrition.”
Neva Cochran, MS, RDN, LD, FAND, Academy Member since 1975.
The Academy Foundation has joined the Academy in celebrating the organization’s 100th anniversary and established the Second Century Fund to raise dollars that supports initiatives that will demonstrate improvements in health and well-being through the transformative power of food and nutrition. The Foundation prioritizes opportunities that align with the Academy and Foundation’s Second Century vision and further advance the Foundation’s mission and strategic plan which position the organization to take a leadership role on the global stage while maintaining our education and research efforts nationally. This may be achieved through scholarships, fellowships, grants and public education that focus on prevention and wellness, health care and health systems & food and nutrition security.
Thousands of Academy members support the Foundation each year with a donation to support these great efforts. Please remember the Foundation when renewing your Academy membership online or donate today!
