Our Foundation is Building the Pipeline of the Next Generation of RDNs!
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation scholarship recipients for 2017 were just announced. Thanks to your generosity, the total amount distributed will be nearly $500,000 this year. The Foundation is the largest provider of scholarships for nutrition and dietetics students in the world – providing $1.5 million over the last three years to more than one thousand Academy members at all levels of study.
You may not be aware that the Foundation began 51 years ago with a gift designated for a scholarship. Year after year, Academy member surveys tell us that scholarships are the most recognizable program of the Foundation and the greatest source of pride for members/donors.
The Commission on Dietetic Registration, and a number of Affiliates, DPGs and MIGs have endowed scholarships with the Foundation. All scholarships go to current Academy members, allowing us to build the pipeline of the next generation of RDNs and, helping to fulfill one of the Foundation’s Principles: Expansion of workforce capacity, capability and the contribution of food and nutrition practitioners.
I’ve had the honor of knowing several esteemed Academy members who are memorialized with scholarships in their name – leaders like Constance Geiger, Ann Litt, and Ken Wear. These dedicated professionals inspired, and continue to inspire students and young professionals to achieve their dreams.
The Foundation’s new Mission is: Through philanthropy, empower current and future food and nutrition practitioners to optimize global health. I can think of no better way to help ensure our ability to continue empowering those practitioners than by making a gift to the Foundation — or even endowing a scholarship in memory of, or honor of, an esteemed colleague.
Oh behalf of the Foundation Board and all scholarship recipients, thank you for your continued generosity!
