This year, we joined with our local Habitat for Humanity organization to host a Family Wellness Zone at their 4th Annual Strawberry Festival event. Over 30,000 people attend this event each year and we had 15 vendors participate in the wellness zone. Each vendor promoted healthy habits and lifestyles; and all had to include an activity or nutrition lesson/tip at their booth. My organization, The Marion County Children’s Alliance, promoted CATCH Kids Club. We use CATCH in all of our afterschool programs and some summer camps around the county. The children were asked to choose beverages with the lowest amount of added sugar and one with high amounts added sugar. Then they did a beanbag relay. We had a great time and the kids did too! We also hosted a 5K run before the festival called the Strawberry Jam 5K. We have almost 150 runners and proceeds are split between Marion County Children’s Alliance and Habitat for Humanity.

I am the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at the Green Valley Hospital in Green Valley, Ariz. I love that we open our restaurant at the hospital to the public two times in the month of March to share nutrition information to our general population and provide very fun and cool handouts. Most people who come to “Chat with the RD” have clinical questions; however I was pleasantly surprised to have a past Diet Technician Registered visit to shadow me. I love learning and want to share the wealth with all. How lucky I am to be in this profession.
