Sharon Foley, PhD, RD, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Nutrition at Rush University and Hillary Zellner, BS, a dietetic intern and graduate student at Rush University Medical Center (Chicago, IL) were welcome guests at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation Board of Directors meeting on Thursday, February 23, 2017.
Foley is the principal investigator and recipient of the Dietitians in Nutrition Support Dietetic Practice Group Research Grant in 2015 for her “Maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressure as a surrogate measure of muscle mass in general medical and surgical patients” study.
Dr. Foley and Zellner, both members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, provided an overview of the study, fielded questions and expressed their gratitude for the grant, which is funded by the Dietitians in Nutrition Support DPG and the Academy Foundation. Dr. Foley’s research interests include assessing psychometric properties of measures, investigating nutrition assessment methods, applying the trans-theoretical model of “stage of change” and motivational interviewing and participating in outcomes research.
Zellner shared her appreciation for the opportunity to be involved in the study so early in her career and to Dr. Foley for being such a great mentor.
“This has been such a great learning experience, thank you,” exclaimed Zellner. Jean Ragalie-Carr, Foundation Chair, graciously accepted the gratitude, “you are the future of our profession and what our Second Century Initiative is all about, thank you!”
The Academy Foundation thanks the Dietitians in Nutrition and Support DPG for their ongoing support of this research grant.
