Happy New Year and Happy Anniversary!
As we welcome 2017, let’s take a moment to congratulate the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics on reaching its 100-year anniversary this year. The Academy has helped us along our journey, providing resources and opportunities for us to be successful in our profession and offering access to a vast network of dynamic individuals who provide inspiration on a daily basis.
The world has changed over the last century and, as a profession and an organization, we continue to evolve to help meet these changes. As much as we appreciate our past and all our great accomplishments over our first 100 years, the Academy and Foundation are not resting on its laurels. We are taking our centennial celebration as an opportunity to build a bold new future through our Second Century Initiative. A future that focuses on service, collaboration and an emphasis on accelerating progress towards solving the biggest food and nutrition challenges of the 21st century.
How great does that sound? A future that positions our members, registered dietitian nutritionists, as catalysts for change, partnering with allied health organizations and professionals to improve nutritional health world-wide. This might sound like an ambitious goal and you might ask how we plan on going about such huge task.
The Second Century Initiative will identify and develop collaborative projects with organizations and leaders throughout the nutrition, wellness and healthcare sectors that will expand upon Foundation programs and Academy relationships in new and emerging ways, providing Academy members with the resources and opportunities to lead the way in improving nutritional health in your communities and throughout the world. Programs like our collaboration with Gardens for International Health and our Applied International Research Fellow, Janice Giddens, MS, RDN, LD, that are making an impact on lives for generations, halfway across the globe.
The success of our Second Century Initiative will be possible with the continued generous support of our Academy members because your donations help provide the resources that fund Foundation programs. Please join me in making a donation to our Second Century Campaign as an investment to the future of our profession. Have a great 2017, I am looking forward to seeing everyone at our 2017 FNCE® in Chicago and celebrating our Centennial!
