A colleague of mine recently came up to me and said, “You know this is the decade of nutrition, we can and need to own it!” I truly believe she is correct and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and our Foundation are taking the lead to do just that. I had the opportunity to attend the Academy’s Nutrition Impact Summit in September. It was a dynamic mix of Academy members as well as health and nutrition thought leaders strategizing to shape a potential vision and start identifying innovative projects and strategic partnerships to take us into our Second Century.

I left that meeting energized and excited about our future. This is our moment to raise the influence of the dietitian on a global level, we are vital in addressing the many issues of global malnutrition, but we can’t do it alone. The Academy and our Foundation will take that momentum to explore and discover opportunities for increased collaboration that leads to innovative solutions to today’s unique public health challenges and opportunities for organizations to participate and stimulate improvements in national and global health through nutrition.

As an Academy member, I urge you to stay current and get involved in our Second Century Initiative. Let’s pick up the baton and run with it, let’s be bold and visionary in creating a legacy for the profession as our founders did 100 years ago. We look forward to the coming months as strategies and partnerships come together. This is also your opportunity to make a significant impact on the future and donate to our Second Century Campaign to ensure the resources are available to build on the Foundation’s programs that will take us into the next century. Your gift will support a bold new future where dietitians lead the charge in improving nutritional health world-wide.
