Diane Heller, MMSc, RDN, LD, FAND, hosted a reception in her Marietta, Georgia home on Sunday, December 11, 2016 to create some grassroots awareness and raise funds for the Academy Foundation’s Second Century Initiative.

More than 40 Academy members and students from around the area attended, with a program that included Academy President-elect and Foundation donor, Donna Martin, RDN, LD, SNS, EDS, FAND, sharing her thoughts on Harvesting Healthy Kids for the Second Century that included her reflections on working with First Lady, Michelle Obama, on the White House Garden and the Academy’s bold vision for its Second Century Initiative.

Academy Foundation Lenna Francis Cooper Lecturers’, Kathleen Zelman, MPH, RD, LD, and Carolyn O’Neil, MS, RDN, LD, presented communication tips to promote the role of the registered dietitian nutritionist as well as educate and inspire Academy Members about the Academy Foundation and our Second Century Initiative.

Diane took the opportunity to share what the Second Century Initiative means to her as a long-time volunteer leader in many capacities over the years and pledging $50,000 to the Second Century Campaign. She asked that everyone consider joining her in making a gift to the Second Century Campaign. Gifts of any size are appreciated and needed to support a bold new vision of the future that will position registered dietitian nutritionists as leading the charge to improve nutritional health world-wide.

Foundation Scholarship Recipient, Ginnefer O. Cox, PhD, RD, then gave an emotional testimonial on what her scholarship meant to her and how grateful she was for the opportunity, presenting Diane with her Second Century donation in person. Ginnefer was featured on a Foundation video.

We encourage you to donate and select Second Century to make a gift online. As a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, this is your opportunity to make a significant impact on the future and donate to the Second Century!
